A soft male chest is one of two things: fat over the chest muscle, which cold can reduce, or breast gland tissue, which it cannot. The clinician tells them apart by feel at the free consultation, and only the fat is treated. The male chest is not among the areas CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for in the US, and we say so plainly. Several small published series have treated it with cryolipolysis, and the manufacturer's 2022 expert panel gives three to five cycles for the chest, both sides together. Usually no time off work, at Cool Clinic, 130 Harley Street, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
Fat or gland
Fat on the chest is soft, spreads across the chest and pinches like the fat on the abdomen. Gland sits as a firmer disc behind the nipple and is a medical question that cold does not answer; where the clinician feels gland, you are referred for the right assessment first. In our experience most men who ask have fat, often with the abdomen and the flanks, and the three are treated in one plan.
What the evidence is
Several small published series have treated the male chest with cryolipolysis, from 10 to 21 men each, between 2015 and 2022. None is large, so we quote no percentage for the chest. The clearance list does not include the chest, and the expert panel's three to five cycles for both sides together is opinion rather than trial evidence. The clinician shows you at the consultation what is realistic for your chest.
The session and after
One or two cycles a side, 35 to 60 minutes each, intense cold and pulling for the first minutes and numbness after. The chest is red, firm and sometimes bruised for a week or two and numb for one to three weeks. The result can start to show from about four weeks and is judged about eight weeks after the last cycle, when we take the after photograph.
Who it suits
A man whose chest is fat rather than gland, whose weight is steady, with a body mass index of 30 or under in our practice, as for the cleared body areas. The belly page and the love handles page cover the areas most often treated with the chest, and the full guide the rest.
